2002 Kentucky Industry of the Year Award
Citation for CLARK PUBLISHING AND COMMUNICATIONS Clark Publishing and Communications has distinguished itself through outstanding products, innovation and entrepreneurial leadership, as well as trade and advocacy group involvement, earning the Lexington-based company the 2002 Kentucky Industry of the Year Award for Small Industry. Clark Publishing and Communications is a diversified company whose services include print and electronic publishing, professional development training to schools and businesses, production of multi-media programs and management of the Lexington office of the McConnell Technology and Training Center (MTTC). Its roster of outstanding publications includes the Kentucky Directory Gold Book, known throughout the Commonwealth as the “Who’s Who of Kentucky;” the Capitol Guide directory of state government; the Kentucky General Assembly Blue Book; the Kentucky Media Guide; and Kentucky Education Law on CD-ROM. The company provides workforce safety training and independent investigative services to schools and business, with plans for on-line seminars in 2003. Clark produced a touch screen, multi-media kiosk featuring the Kentucky Encyclopedia for the new Kentucky History Center and an on-line multi-media Awareness Training Program for the Head Start Family Literacy Project. The company manages “MTTC East,” administering MTTC’s popular PC Essentials designed to get refurbished industry-donated computers and Internet access to needy individuals in central, eastern and northern Kentucky communities. Statewide, over 8,000 families and numerous schools have benefited from this program. Clark also coordinates MTTC’s Quality Management Systems and Business Skills training programs for small and medium size companies in its service area. The company also produces the Business and Technology Section of the Associated Industries of Kentucky newspaper, the Kentucky Journal of Commerce and Industry for MTTC.. Clark is led by two outstanding individuals actively involved in local, state and national affairs. Mr. Robert “Bobby” Clark was appointed chairman of the new Kentucky Commission on Small Business Advocacy in May 2001. He was appointed to the U.S. Small Business Administration National Advisory Council in January 2001 and served on the 1994 White House Conference on Small Business which initiated the Small Business Regulatory Enforcement Fairness Act. He served as Chairman of Kentucky’s Information Technology Issues Committee and served as Chair and is a current member of the Region IV Regulatory Fairness Board. He is Vice Chairman of the Kentucky Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve and is on multiple Lexington area boards. Company President Florence Huffman serves on the board of directors of the Bluegrass District Community and Technical College, the Ashland Terrace Retirement Home, the National Association of Women Business Owners and the Center for Women, Children and Families.
